We Must Ensure the Green Transition

The seminar held at the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO) Assembly Hall in collaboration with PLASFED and Energy Nova A.Ş. began with opening speeches by Erdal Bahçıvan, Chairman of the ISO Executive Board, and Ömer Karadeniz, Chairman of PLASFED. Commenting on the Investment Seminar for Solar Energy Systems, Karadeniz stated: "We focused on the details that should be considered in GES investments in a seminar that garnered great interest from both the plastic sector and other branches of the manufacturing industry."

We Must Ensure the Green Transition

Karadeniz emphasized that the world is undergoing a significant paradigm shift, and sustainability will emerge as the most crucial concept in the upcoming period. He stated: "Our manufacturing industry needs to adapt quickly to the green transition. Otherwise, it is not unlikely that our exports will be affected by this situation in the medium term. On the other hand, turning to renewable energy sources to reduce our carbon footprint offers significant economic advantages at both the firm level and the country level. As we know, our country is quite poor in terms of fossil fuels, and therefore energy is among our most important import items. However, our renewable energy potential is very high. If this potential is harnessed with the right policies, it may be possible to significantly reduce our energy imports while protecting the environment and achieving a more sustainable foreign trade balance. In this context, it is necessary to expand financing opportunities for renewable energy investments and reduce financing costs."

We Will Increase Corporate Collaborations
Bahçıvan, emphasizing the importance of the plastic sector for our country and noting its strategic importance due to its role in providing intermediate goods to nearly all sectors, stated: "The energy issue is critically important for our manufacturing industry. It poses the greatest cost after raw materials. Energy is the most critical factor that determines the cost, quality, and most importantly, the competitiveness of the work done. Unfortunately, Turkey is not at a sufficient level in terms of fossil resources; however, it is a country with high potential in renewable energy. Investments in GES and wind energy plants have shown significant increases recently, which is a hopeful development for the future. As ISO, we are actively working to inform our members about this issue through our Sustainability Department. In the future, we need to increase inter-institutional collaborations in the field of sustainability."

We Must Raise Awareness in the Sector
After the seminar, which took place with intense participation, Karadeniz continued: "We brought together representatives from all components involved in GES investments to answer all the questions participants had. In this context, we connected participants with leading companies in the EPC, panel, cable, inverter, construction, and financing sectors, and attendees left the event with great satisfaction. Moving forward, we will continue our efforts to raise awareness in the sector about what can be done to reduce our carbon footprint. We would like to express our gratitude to the ISO Executive Board and Assembly, particularly to Mr. Erdal Bahçıvan, who is making significant efforts to raise awareness in the manufacturing industry through his work in green transition and sustainability."
