On Wednesday, March 10, 2021, Mustafa KINACI, Chairman of the Board of SEPA – Rigid Plastic Packaging Industrialists' Association, and Secretary General Gülçin KAZAK visited our Federation. On behalf of PLASFED, Chairman of the Board Ömer KARADENİZ, Board Member Tarık ÖZDEMİR, and Secretary General Murat İNKÜN attended the meeting.
In this meeting, where raw material price increases, external dependency, investments, and the difficulties experienced in the supply chain were discussed, the general effects of the virus and its reflections on the sector were deliberated.
PLASFED President Ömer KARADENİZ, referring to the difficulties faced by industrialists, stated that the driving force that would raise a country is production and industry. KARADENİZ underlined that industrialists are currently experiencing land shortages for production, and consequently, production cannot be carried out due to the inability to establish factories, which harms our country. President KARADENİZ, emphasizing the importance and necessity of domestic production, said, ‘Production needs to be sufficiently encouraged by investors. When we look at the world, we see investment and production in developed countries. If there is no investment and production in a country, the development of that country can never, ever be possible’. In the meeting where the issue of raw materials was frequently discussed, PLASFED President Ömer KARADENİZ, once again underlining the lack of investment, stated that the absence of necessary investments to cover the raw material deficit in our country hinders production.
Mustafa KINACI, Chairman of the Board of SEPA, stated that both employment and production are negatively affected because industrialists who want to invest face high prices, and expressed that they share the same opinion regarding the necessity for investment and production to always exist for a country's development. Mr. KINACI also added that the financial difficulties arising from the lack of investment upset the industrialists.
Mr. KINACI, making a moderate comment about the future of raw material prices, said, ‘This situation is a temporary process. I think it will recover. If it continues this way, raw material companies will not be able to sell, and sellers will also be negatively affected’. Our Federation's President KARADENİZ stated that the supply-demand balance is important in raw material prices and noted that raw material prices would increase as long as this supply-demand balance remains disrupted. Mr. KARADENİZ also said, ‘Where there is no supply, there is a black market. This situation harms both production, the sector, and most importantly, our country’.
At the end of this visit, where opinions and suggestions were discussed, Ömer KARADENİZ extended his thanks to Mustafa KINACI, and stated that PLASFED, the umbrella organization of the sector, would continue its efforts to produce solutions for the problems faced by our sector, primarily with SEPA and all its members.
