LET’S MEET AT WORK / INDUSTRY RADIO
Ömer Karadeniz, Chairman of the PLASFED Board of Directors, who participated in the İş’te Buluşalım program hosted by Çetin Ünsalan and broadcast on Industry Radio, stated that countries need a qualified workforce to achieve digital transformation. Karadeniz said that skilled individuals will emerge as the trained workforce becomes proficient, and emphasized the need to create a human resource with the skills to make a difference in the digital transformation journey.
Ömer Karadeniz, Chairman of the Plastics Industrialists Federation Board of Directors, stating that countries have an urgent need for a qualified workforce to achieve digital transformation, particularly emphasized the necessity of making the trained workforce proficient. Karadeniz stated that ordinary training would not contribute to a qualified workforce, and said, “You must provide such training that, along with that training, that skill, that talent can also emerge”.
Karadeniz noted that in order to have a chance to compete in industries, it is necessary to keep up with technological developments, and for this, the importance of a qualified workforce is increasing day by day.
The PLASFED President underlined that adapting to technology is very important, but if you are not producing technology, at least human resources with the skills to make a difference while using that technology should be created.
Emphasizing that all both developed and developing countries have undergone digital transformation, Karadeniz said, “When you look into digital transformation, we see factories we call ‘dark factories’. I am talking about factories that are entirely involved in technological operations. The importance of human resources who are well-trained and have developed their skills emerges exactly at this point. As we all know, the most important factor of economic development is human resources with developed skills” he concluded.
Qualified workforce increases industry’s competitiveness
Karadeniz pointed out that qualified individuals will emerge as the trained workforce becomes proficient, explaining that these individuals provide much greater benefit to their countries. The PLASFED President stated that the skill provided by a qualified workforce is a critical factor in increasing industry’s competitiveness in Turkey’s digital transformation journey, and said, “If we want digital transformation in industry, we will prioritize a qualified workforce. The gap in this area is growing, and a shortage of intermediate staff is emerging in almost every field, especially in manufacturing sectors. Particularly in developing and underdeveloped countries like ours, the shortage of qualified personnel is steadily increasing”. Karadeniz noted that with the new digitized order, the critical importance of a qualified workforce has grown, and explained that dark factories have emerged, leading to the creation of different job sectors.
“Personnel who will generate intellectual labor are needed”
Karadeniz noted that with the advent of 4-0 digital transformation, sectors would require a qualified workforce, and called for an emphasis on new education policies to meet demands. Karadeniz pointed out the need to expand and increase the number of analytical science-based fields, stating, “We need to focus on added value in production. Physical labor is a very valuable matter. However, while we commit physical labor to technology and digitalization, we also need personnel who will generate intellectual labor. Both intellectual and physical labor are added value for both employees and our country. We will pay attention to a qualified workforce so that industry can transition to value-added production and move towards high-technology areas” he concluded.
