A delegation led by Ömer Karadeniz, Chairman of the Board of the Plastics Industrialists Federation, met with Dünya Gazetesi Editor-in-Chief İbrahim Kahveci, General Broadcast Coordinator Ece Ceyhun, General News Coordinator Recep Erçin, and Managing Editor Fikret Çengel. The main agenda item of the visit was the economic value created by the plastics sector in the Turkish economy and the problems of the sector awaiting solutions. During the meeting, where significant developments expected to be implemented in the sector in the coming days were also discussed, ideas were exchanged.
PLASFED Board Members also accompanied the meeting held on November 13 at the headquarters of Dünya Gazetesi. The delegation included PLASFED Chairman Ömer Karadeniz, Mustafa Ateş, Ömer Köstek, Erol Aykut, and Savaş Doğan. The Chairman of PLASFED, the umbrella organization addressing the problems of plastic industrialists, provided information about current developments in the sector.
Karadeniz stated that the Deposit Return System (DİS), which has been on the agenda for some time, is expected to be implemented on January 1, 2025, and emphasized that the system is a gain for our country. Karadeniz, who called for the necessary steps to be taken as soon as possible, said: “There is no developed country left that does not implement DİS in recycling technologies. As PLASFED, the umbrella organization of the plastics sector, we certainly want and support the implementation of DİS. However, the sine qua non for the start of this work is KAS. Developed countries implemented this 40 years ago, adding value to their national economies. We, too, must join the system without delay. The way to do this is through KAS, which stands for the Source Separation System.”

Karadeniz stated that in Europe, packaging waste has been separated at the source for many years, adding value to both the ecological order and national economies. He said, “The world is now transitioning from the 'produce-use-dispose' principle to a circular economy model. Essentially, this appears as a necessity rather than a choice. Because our world’s resources are not limitless, therefore, in the transition to a circular economy, society needs to undergo an intellectual transformation and move away from the 'waste' approach.”
Dünya Gazetesi Editor-in-Chief İbrahim Kahveci extended his thanks to PLASFED for their valuable contributions to the country's economy. Emphasizing that the Deposit Return System, expected to be launched on January 1, is of great value to our country, Kahveci said, “As Dünya Gazetesi, we take part in all kinds of work that benefit our country. We would like to support the work of the PLASFED team in this regard.”
