The Corporate Sustainability and Sectoral Transformation Meetings, organized in cooperation with PLASFED, Istanbul Kültür University, and SEGM, brought together representatives from academia, industry, and civil society on the same platform to address the sustainable future of the plastics sector.

The “Corporate Sustainability and Sectoral Transformation Meetings”, organized to contribute to the sustainable transformation of the plastics industry, took place on February 12th at Istanbul Kültür University Design Factory. The meeting, organized in collaboration with the Plastics Industrialists' Federation (PLASFED), Istanbul Kültür University Sustainability Research Center (İKÜ SÜRKAM), and the Sustainable Education, Development and Excellence Association (SEGM), brought together representatives from academia, the business world, and civil society on the same platform.


During the meeting, the sustainability perspective of the plastics sector was discussed, and the sector's current situation, transformation needs, and future roadmap were evaluated.
The opening speeches of the program were delivered by; Istanbul Kültür University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Burcu Yavuz Tiftikçigil, PLASFED Chairman of the Board Ömer Karadeniz, and SEGM President Çağlar Çabuk.
PLASFED Chairman of the Board Ömer Karadeniz, in his speech, drew attention to the strategic importance of sustainability for the sector and stated the following:
“The world is now undergoing a sustainability-based transformation. Climate change, resource efficiency, circular economy, and carbon management are not just environmental topics; they are fundamental elements of competitiveness and corporate resilience. It is now inevitable to approach the entire life cycle of the plastics industry, from production to waste management, with a sustainability mindset. We view this process not as a risk but as a great opportunity for our sector. We believe that we will shape the future of our sector together with common sense and cooperation.”

Following the opening speeches, a panel titled “The Plastics Sector from a Sustainability Perspective” was held. The moderation of the panel was undertaken by Çağlar Çabuk, Chairman of the Board of the Sustainable Education, Development and Excellence Association (SEGM). Panelists included Sultan Tepe, Member of the Board of Directors of Istanbul Chamber of Industry and Head of the Sustainability Platform, Prof. Dr. Sinan Alçın, Faculty Member at Istanbul Kültür University, and Selçuk Gülsün, Deputy Chairman of the Plastics Industrialists Business People Association. The panel addressed the sustainability agenda of the plastics sector, circular economy practices, transformation in competitive conditions, and strategic topics for the future of the sector.

Joint assessment for sectoral transformation 


It was aimed that the evaluations made within the scope of the meeting would produce important outcomes contributing to the sector's sustainability journey; while it was emphasized that the joint work of academia, the business world, and civil society is critically important for sectoral transformation.


The organization was evaluated as an important step in creating a platform for knowledge sharing and cooperation that will contribute to the development of the plastics industry in line with sustainable development goals.
