PLASFED, SAID “CONTINUE WITH SELÇUK AKSOY” FOR THE 2015-2018 TERM AS WELL!
• The 2nd Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of PLASFED (Plastics Industrialists Federation), the umbrella organization of the plastics sector, was held in Istanbul. At the meeting, in the election held with a single list, it was decided to continue with Selçuk Aksoy, who successfully served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors in the first term, for the new term as well. At the meeting, where the sector's and organizational activities were evaluated, a manifesto was also read and presented to public attention.
• In the manifesto (declaration) read by Selçuk Aksoy, the view was emphasized: “We are committed to opposing biased actions against our sector; to respond strongly as a single voice against wrong perceptions, injustices, and problems. We will always articulate the importance of plastic, an indispensable and value-added product in our daily lives and many sectors, its unknown benefits, and its contributions to the country and the economy.”
• In his speech, Aksoy also noted that the sector faces serious competitive risks in foreign markets; and that they have launched a new initiative within Turkey to influence decision-makers.
The 2nd Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of the Plastics Industrialists Federation – PLASFED, the umbrella organization of the Turkish plastics sector, has concluded. At the meeting, where a manifesto (declaration) containing the sector's messages to the public was adopted, in the election held with a single list, the decision to “continue with Selçuk Aksoy” for the 2015-2018 term was made. At the PLASFED 2nd Ordinary General Assembly Meeting, Hüseyin Semerci and Erol Paksu were elected as Vice Chairmen of the Board of Directors, while Reha Gür was elected as Accounting Member and Murat Kökoğlu was appointed as Secretary Member.
The number of members joining under the PLASFED umbrella is rapidly increasing!
PLASFED Chairman of the Board Selçuk Aksoy delivered the opening speech of the meeting, which took place with the participation of representatives from 8 member associations, including the newly joined ones. Aksoy emphasized the importance of the rapidly increasing number of associations joining under the PLASFED umbrella every day and the expansion throughout Turkey with this unity, stating, “The federation is not a separate concept. It is an increasingly strong, growing name formed by your coming together; you are the federation itself, and we are all a part of it! This success is one we should be proud of and is appreciated from the outside.”
The Turkish plastics sector, which must shift to high value-added products, faces external and internal competition-implementation risks!
In his speech, Aksoy noted that the sector faces external and internal competition-implementation risks and stated that it is necessary to act in unity to develop the sector against these risks and combat unfair prejudices and attacks, adding:
“Turkey and the world face high economic risks. The low growth rate that has continued for some time will be unavoidable for us from now on. We will continue to struggle together with low-profit margins. The opportunity for our region is the Middle East. Although the Middle East provides raw materials, its new goal is now to shift from plastic raw material production to plastic product manufacturing. As a precaution, we need to transition to high value-added products.”
Selçuk Aksoy pointed out that they pay much more for the products they import than for those they export, stating, “We export a lot, but what we export is cheap, and what we import is more expensive! For this, education, innovation, R&D, and unity are needed. Among our activities, we also have educational activities, but I particularly ask you to broaden these educational activities,” thus expressing the great importance of education.
Turkish plastics sector manifesto!
Selçuk Aksoy, who also read the “Turkish plastics sector manifesto” at the PLASFED 2nd Ordinary General Assembly Meeting, listed the manifesto articles as follows:
• As members of the Turkish plastics sector, having successfully reached today by diligently advancing from workshops under difficult conditions, pushing our own resources and circumstances; we consider it our main duty to protect our sector, which consists entirely of working people, including our fathers, children, masters, and apprentices.
• We are now making intense efforts to strongly establish our sectoral unity and solidarity, which has not been adequately provided until today.
• We commit to opposing biased actions carried out against our sector and to responding strongly as a single voice against misconceptions and injustices.
• We emphasize the importance of plastic, an indispensable, value-added product in our daily lives and many sectors, its unknown benefits, and its contributions to the country and the economy.
• Contrary to popular belief, we tirelessly explain to everyone the truth about our sector: that plastic is environmentally friendly and a product that does not harm the environment or health.
• We are engaged in efforts to enable our sector to receive the incentives and support it deserves and to make initiatives to remove bureaucratic obstacles in our way effective.
• We show interest in relevant days and elections and support them with our votes to strengthen our representation in Civil Society Organizations and professional associations/chambers.
• We join under the umbrellas of our sector associations and federations that initiate and follow up on initiatives that will advance our sector, aim to represent our unity and solidarity more strongly at all times, create similar reflexes and discourses on sectoral issues, and can initiate real change movements; and we invite those who are not yet members.
• We always stand by ambitious sector member candidates who, when undertaking the duty of sector representation, are aware of the necessity to represent our sector and consider our benefits, not their own individual interests; and who work diligently to implement the right projects.
• We share our knowledge and experiences for the growth and development of every member and every business in our sector, and we offer any support we can on the path to success.
• We recognize the necessity of establishing modern organized industrial zones specific to our sector, suitable for the age, that will bring our producers together and ensure the development of young generations, and we are taking our place in these zones.
• Based on the need for greater unity and solidarity in line with our goals, we are implementing our manifesto by considering not only today and ourselves but also the fact that each of us is an important representative of our sector individually and has significant responsibilities.
Evaluations regarding the sector were also made!
At the PLASFED General Assembly, evaluations were also made regarding the sector and organization. Confidence in PLASFED's organizational model, which aims to achieve widespread and comprehensive representation by expanding local organization and establishing new associations in regions where plastic industrialists are not organized, was reaffirmed.
Trust in PLASFED's ongoing work with decision-makers was emphasized, and the view that its effectiveness should be further developed was adopted. PLASFED's roadmap on this issue was also shared.
