Ömer Karadeniz: “Our Production Power Is Turkey’s Greatest Advantage”

PLASFED President Ömer Karadeniz was a guest on the “KOBİ Platformu” program broadcast on A Para, where he evaluated the strategic role of the plastics sector in the fields of production, export, and technology. Karadeniz emphasized the need to increase raw material investments, accelerate recycling systems, and support SMEs.

PLASFED Chairman of the Board Ömer Karadeniz was a guest on the “KOBİ Platformu” program, hosted by Sema Ertekin and broadcast on A Para. The program comprehensively covered the current state of the Turkish plastics sector, its production power, export performance, raw material issues, recycling policies, and the financial challenges faced by SMEs.

Speaking on the program, Karadeniz emphasized that production is the cornerstone of the Turkish economy and stated that the plastics sector plays a critical role in many strategic areas, ranging from packaging to automotive, and from the defense industry to healthcare. Noting that Turkey ranks among the top countries in the world in terms of plastic production capacity, Karadeniz said that exports to Europe are of great importance for the sector.

Expressing that the importance of plastic products in terms of hygiene and health was understood more clearly in the post-pandemic period, Karadeniz drew attention to the strategic use of engineering plastics, particularly in the defense industry, aviation, and high-tech fields. He stated that plastic and composite technologies have a significant share in Turkey's domestic production success in the defense industry.

Stating that one of the biggest problems of the sector is access to raw materials, Karadeniz said that Turkey is largely dependent on imports. Emphasizing that petrochemical investments should be increased, Karadeniz stated that the commissioning of new facilities would make a significant contribution to production capacity.

Karadeniz also pointed out that the Source Separation System and the Deposit Return System need to be accelerated, underlining that recycling is a strategic issue both environmentally and economically. Stating that the widespread adoption of recycling practices would reduce the need for imported raw materials and decrease foreign currency outflow, Karadeniz said that a sustainable production approach should be supported.

Drawing attention throughout the program to the importance of protecting production, employment, and exports, Karadeniz emphasized that supporting SMEs, in particular, is critical for the sustainable growth of the Turkish economy.
