Plastic Product Export Increased 5.4% in Tonnage and 5.4% in Value During 2017
In 2017, the export volume of Turkish plastic products rose 5.4% in quantity and 5.6% in value. As for raw materials, there is a %6 increase in quantity and 18.6% increase in value. This actual increase in value is indicative of great progresses achieved in the “production of highly added-value goods” which we specified as a need for the Turkish plastics industry during 2016 year-end review. The export of plastics processing machines rose 15.9% in value this year. We see that the parity effect on export grew weaker to a considerable extent compared to the previous year.
2017 Year-End Foreign Trade Statistics
The analysis on export data is conducted in three sub-categories; raw materials, products and rubber processing machines. Each sub-category is analyzed individually by HS Code and country.
In 2017, the export volume of Turkish plastic raw materials rose 6% in quantity and 18.6% in value. This observed increase in value indicates the rise in unit price of export goods.
Upon reviewing countries regarding the export of plastic raw materials as of the end of 2017, the volume of export to Bulgaria and Russian Federation is observed to increase 38 to 42%, while this figure remains about 28% for export to Romania, Iraq and Uzbekistan.

When analyzing the export volume of plastic products as of the end of 2017, sharp drops were observed regarding the volume of export to Iran as analyzed throughout the year. The product export to Israel and Bulgaria increased about 18%.
In 2017, the export volume of Turkish plastic and rubber processing machines rose 15.9%. The export volume of blowing machines is observed to drop sharply by 372% compared to the previous year. When analyzing the top 10 export countries, we see that the volume of export to Spain increased 168% in value compared to the previous year.
In 2017, the import volume of Turkish plastic raw materials rose 10% in quantity and 17% in value. While the average unit price was 1.3 USD/kg last year, it turned out to be 1.4 USD/kg this year.
When analyzing those countries from which the largest number of products are imported in 2017, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Germany are seen to rank at the top again with the greatest shares in import.

When analyzing the import volume of products by countries, it is seen that the volume of import from Spain rose 25% as well as 13% rise in the import from England and Belgium.

Considering the import volume of rubber and plastic processing machinery industry for 2017 by countries, it is seen that the import from Thailand rose sharply by 275%.
